Description: Online media tools like YouTube, TeacherTube, Vimeo, and Blip.tv have exploded in recent years. While we immediately see the application of these tools for entertainment they can also be powerful learning tools. They can be the source of rich curriculum content and serve as a platform to bring an audience to student work. There is a plethora of free video content currently available on these sites. In this course you will learn some search techniques to locate quality resources, learn how to use these tools to create curricular resources (such as posting recordings of your lessons for students who were absent or need to revisit a lesson), and how to use these tools to safely and effectively engage students as content producers. While these tools offer great potential they also pose some issues that need to be addressed for their integration to be safe and effective such as bandwidth use, copyright, online safety, and data privacy. These issues will be addressed and solutions offered for addressing these issues. (can be either a 3 or 6 hour class)

Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to efficiently locate quality online video resources using advanced search techniques.
2. Participants will be able to create, upload, and post video content utilizing multiple recording techniques including digital video recorders, webcams, and screencasts.
3. Participants will learn multiple techniques for extracting video content from these services and become aware of copyright concerns and limitations regarding this use.
4. Participants will learn how to utilize social elements of these tools such as comments and video rating for facilitating student assessment and asynchronous discussion.
